How I approach your project
I approach every project with structure, calm, and confidence that we will make your home work better. I guide the process from start to finish, and invite you to collaborate as much or as little as you like.
Step 1: Understand
The first step of every HomeWorks by Sofie project is about establishing a shared understanding. I’ll visit your space and we’ll discuss what’s working and what’s not. We walk through your space together and I’ll take an inventory of your things, measure of your spaces, and we’ll shop your home for potential hidden solutions you already have. From this I learn where the pain points are, what our goals are, and all of the information needed to design your tailored solutions. You’ll leave understanding exactly what comes next and feeling assured that you’re in good hands.
Step 2: Build
Equipped with a clear understanding of our project, I’ll get to work building your new home system. I’ll design your new storage solutions, create shopping lists for organization products that will help you maintain your new system, develop a detailed map of where everything will go, and build our project timeline. All of this will be contained in your DOCUMENT, <insert doc description>. You’ll have access to the DOCUMENT at every step of the way, and when we’re finished it will become your reference for how your home works.
Step 3: Implement
Now we move from theoretical to practical and actually implement your new home system. At this stage, you’ll get to decide how much or how little you want to be involved. You’ll always be in charge of final decisions, but if you want to sit back and let me handle the hands-on work, that’s totally fine! Or if you want to see (or learn) my method, you’re welcome to roll up your sleeve with me. My process generally looks like this:
- Empty and categorize. Take everything out so we can really see what we’re working with, then place everything into categories.
- Declutter as needed. This steps varies a lot depending on the nature of the project. And it’s a very personal one. I’ll walk you through gently, give you my recommendations, and then the final decision of what stays and what goes is always yours.
- Install new systems. Sometimes this is as simple as adding new bins to your existing shelves, while other times may involve assembling new organization furniture.
- Put everything in its home. With systems installed, putting things away is a breeze.
Everything is updated in your DOCUMENT as we go, so nothing is a surprise to you.
Many projects take multiple sessions to implement, in that case, we’ll add intermediate steps of temporary storage so you can get on with your life between visits.
